Stankova blanks singles opponent as Midgets top Patriots

BISMARCK -- Behind four singles victories, and a pair of doubles wins, the Dickinson High tennis team defeated Bismarck Century 6-3 on the road on Tuesday, April 23.

BISMARCK - Behind four singles victories, and a pair of doubles wins, the Dickinson High tennis team defeated Bismarck Century 6-3 on the road on Tuesday, April 23.

Junior Anna Stankova swept senior Jessica Keller in straight sets, winning 6-0 and 6-0. Seventh grader Valeria Bradley was dominant as well, defeating sophomore Riley Lembke 6-1, 6-2, while eighth-grader Malayna Schneider stayed hot, downing eighth-grader Ashley Kindem 6-1, 6-1.

Midgets sophomore Emma Dazell was in close combat with junior Mickayla Brackin, with the first set going to Brackin 6-4. Dazell came away with a win by the same tally in set two, before sealing the victory in set three, 7-5.

Dickinson senior Lauren Jorda lost a tough one, dropping set one 6-4 to Patriots sophomore Blake Zander before coming back to win set two 7-6(4). However, Zander won after taking set three 6-4.

Eighth-grader Maya Kubstad earned the other Bismarck Century singles win, downing senior Alexa Cofer 7-5, 6-1.

In doubles action, Keller and Zander combined to defeat Jorda and Dazell 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

The combination of Stankova and Cofer nearly shutdown Lembke and Kindem, as the Midgets pairing won 6-2, 6-0. Bradley and sophomore Elizabeth Dean were nearly as dominant, winning over Brackin and Kubstad in two sets, 6-2, 6-2.
