Titans score 25 in the third to rout Raiders

RICHARDTON -- Outscoring Richardton-Taylor 46-23 in the middle quarters, the Dickinson Trinity girls basketball team defeated the Raiders 72-40 on Thursday, Feb. 7, at Richardton-Taylor High School.

After leading the Raiders 18-10 after one, the Titans ensued to break the game open in the second with 21 points to the home team's 10.

"We opened it up with a big second-quarter highlighted by (junior guard) Kylen Kubas with back-to-back 3-pointers," Dickinson Trinity head coach Carter Fong said via email. "She has made big improvements this year. She used to be strictly a slasher, but has spent lots of time on her shot."

Kubas added another three in the third, during which the Titans netted 25 points.

Sophomore forward Abbey Kubas led all players with 18 points, while senior guard Bre Tessier added 17. Fourteen Titans put their feet on the hardwood as nine inked their names in the scoring column.

Pacing the Raiders, senior guard Elle Goetz scored 13 points as sophomore guard Skylar Crow and sophomore forward Carly Diede each contributed 10.

Dickinson Trinity went 9-for-14 at the free-throw line as Richardton-Taylor committed 13 fouls. On 15 Titan fouls, the Raiders hit 9 of 16 attempts from the charity stripe.

"To the credit of the Raiders, their players were aggressive and looked to score and gave us some trouble early," Fong said.
