DSU athlete of the week - Cleet Wrzesinski

Cleet Wrzesinski, a freshman on the Dickinson state indoor track and field team, won the North Star Athletic Association heptathlon on Monday, Feb. 12 with a score of 4,700 points, shattering the previous record of 4,292 points held by teammate/senior Thomas Sease. Both athletes qualified for the NAIA national meet on March 1.

On Saturday, Feb. 17, the Blue Hawk men took home their fourth consecutive NSAA indoor track and field title, aided by Wrzesinski's second place finish in the 200m and the 60m hurdles as well as his third place finish in the long jump.

DP: Where are you from and why did you choose DSU?

CW: "I'm from Baker,Mont. but we kind of lived all over the world. I chose DSU because I really liked the coaches and everybody I met here I really enjoyed."

DP: What's been the coolest place you've lived?

CW: "Probably, China."

DP: How long have you been running track? What do you enjoy most about it?

CW: "I've been running track since about elementary school. Both my parents were track athletes and they got me into it young. I just enjoy competing against other teams and, I don't know, spending time with my teammates."

DP: What's your major?

CW: "Physical Education."

DP: What kind of team goals do you have for nationals/outdoor season?

CW: "We got a few athletes going to nationals so I hope everyone does well there and then going into the outdoor season, just everyone work as hard as they can and compete as well as they can."

DP: Any personal goals?

CW: "I want to be an All-American this coming nationals."

DP: What is the biggest challenge of being a two-sport athlete? (Wrzesinski was a red shirt freshman on the football team in the fall)

CW: "I don't find it too challenging. I like how we get to socialize. There's lots of guys on the track team that are on the football team too. It's lots of the same people. It's pretty easy to fit in."

DP: Last show you binged on Netflix?

CW: "I was watching Black Mirror not too long ago and I thought that was really good."

DP: What is your favorite movie?

CW: "Probably Hot Rod."

DP: If you only get to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

CW: "Probably steak. I just really enjoy it. It's a pretty good meal."

DP: Who has been your biggest inspiration to succeed?

CW: "My parents. Both of them are really good athletes and I like where they've gone in life and how well they've supported me and my sister."
