Dickinson State Athlete of the Week - Megan Erickson
Megan Erickson, a sophomore on the Dickinson State track team, qualified for the NAIA national championship in both the 100- and 200-meter dash at the North Star Conference Meet at the Biesiot Activities Center on Friday, May 10.
Her time of 11.9 seconds in the 100 earned her second, while her time of 25 seconds flat gave her third in the 200. Her spots on the podium helped the Blue Hawk women earn their third straight conference title.
DP: Where are you from and why did you choose Dickinson State?
ME: "I graduated here at Dickinson High so I'm technically from here. I chose Dickinson (State) because it was home, my family was here and I got the opportunity to run track and field."
DP: How long have you been running track and what do you most enjoy about it?
ME: "I've been running track since I've been a seventh-grader. I love ... is being around the people and my coaches."
DP: What is your major?
ME: "My major is psychology."
DP: Do you participate in anything else?
ME: "I do not. I go to all the sporting events, but I don't participate in anything else."
DP: What is your favorite event to run or compete in?
ME: "My favorite event is the 100-meter dash."
DP: What is your least favorite event?
ME: "The 400-meter dash."
DP: How are you preparing for nationals?
ME: "Hydration, lots of water, taking it easy, eating right. Those type of things, I guess."
DP: If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
ME: "Probably brownies."
DP: If you had to vacation one spot for the rest of your life, where would it be?
ME: "That's a hard one. Somewhere warm. Australia, maybe."
DP: What is the best show or movie you've seen recently?
ME: "The Blind Spot."
DP: What is your spirit animal?
ME: "An elephant."
DP: Who or what is your biggest inspiration to succeed?
ME: "Definitely my parents, my family, my coaches, my friends. I don't know, everyone pretty much. I'd say my family."
