BEACH -- In each track and field meet, every point counts.
No matter if it's a first- or eighth-place finish.
On Saturday in Beach, every point counted as the Dickinson Trinity boys track and field team scored 111 points to win the Southwest Region Championship.
"Anytime you win a meet by two points, it's a special thing, because it meant every point mattered," Trinity co-head coach Andrew DesRosier said. "Every eighth place, every contributor was essential to winning the meet."
The Titans edged runner-up Killdeer by two points, while Bowman County rounded out the top three with 94.

Trinity senior Dylan Gress dug deep to finish in third place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 12.93 seconds. Gress' win topped fourth place finisher, Killdeer's Calum Blankenship, in the event and opened the door for the Titans to win the meet in the final race of the day with at least a first- or second-place finish in the 1,600 relay.
"Dylan showed so much maturity and awareness of the situation," DesRosier said. "He was trailing two Killdeer runners for seven and half laps of an eight lap race. He was able to dig deep and out spirit them both in the final 200 meters."
Though Killdeer won the final event of the day, Trinity was right behind with a runner-up finish.
Trinity won three events as senior Mason Heth shattered his personal best in the pole vault by more than a foot. Heth won the height at 13 feet, 9 inches.
"Mason not only improved his standings in the state vault, but made the difference between a first and second place at the regional meet," DesRosier said.
Mitchell Meyer came away with a win in the 1,600 run (4:42.43), while Jesse Kubik placed first in the shot put at 44-5½.
On the girls side, the Titans had a much safer point differential. Trinity scored 170.5 points, while runner-up Mott-Regent had 117.5 and Bowman County was third with 94.
"The girls really had a fantastic meet," DesRosier said. "We had several girls from top to bottom performance extremely well. We had at least one girls that place in all 19 events. That's a rare occurrence."

The Trinity girls won five events as Katelyn Grinsteinner won three. The junior won the 400 (1:01.63) and 800 (2:26.9), while helping the 1,600 relay -- along with Maddie Hanson, Alanna Sickler and Kennedy Keator -- with a victory (4:17.53).
The other two wins came from Shannon Stockert in the 3,200 (12:50.34) and the 400 relay team of Maddie Hanson, McKenzie Kostelecky, Selina Kudrna and Lydia Brooke with a time of 53.6 seconds.
Other multiple winners from the boys side were Bowman County's Michael Palczewski in the 200 (22.92) and 400 (51.27). Beach's Danny Skoglund won the 800 (2:02.22) and 300 hurdles (40.57).
For the girls side, Mott-Regent's Marah Friez and Abby Honeyman won a combined five events. Friez won the 100 (12.68) and 200 (25.94). Honeyman won the 100 hurdles (15.09), 300 hurdles (48.45) and triple jump (33-7).
The teams from the Southwest Region will now focus their sights on the North Dakota Class B state track and field meet starting next Friday at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
"We are very hopeful for the state meet," DesRosier said. "The best athletes are going to be there. The difference between a state placer and non-state placer can be the blink of an eye. We are very hopeful as a team."
