Trinity clinches top seed in Region 7 Tournament with triumph at Killdeer

KILLDEER - Tied at eight in Killdeer at the end of the first quarter, the Dickinson Trinity boys basketball team outscored the Cowboys in each of the remaining three frames, eventually picking up a 48-25 victory on Friday, Feb. 22, from Killdeer High School.

Holding Killdeer to only two points in the second period, Trinity enjoyed a 17-10 advantage at the half before extending it to 32-19 at the end of the third.

The Titans scored 31 points in the second half on 14-for-24 shooting. Meanwhile, the Cowboys had a tough time producing points, shooting just 23.5 percent from the field.

The visitors were led by junior guard Matthew Stafford with 18 points, while senior forward Aric Knopik had 10. In his last game in front of his home crowd, senior guard Daylon Danks had 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to pace Killdeer.

The Titans’ win was a pivotal one, as they clinched the top seed in the upcoming Region 7 Tournament, earning the distinction with a 10-1 record in conference play. Finishing atop the standings tied with Beulah, Dickinson Trinity owned the tiebreaker by virtue of a head-to-head victory over the Miners on Jan. 31.
