BEACH - The Dickinson Trinity girls basketball team broke a six-game losing streak on Saturday with a 60-42 Region 7 victory over Beach.

The Titans forced the Buccaneers into 20 turnovers in the game and shot just well enough from the field to hold onto the win, which improves them to 4-11 overall and a 3-3 mark in the region.

“We were in attack mode on offense from the opening tip,” Trinity head coach Carter Fong said. “We didn’t heat up percentage-wise, but with 70 field goal attempts and 23 free throws, we gave ourselves opportunities. We won the turnover battle and played team basketball.”

Trinity junior Jordie McNeilly led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds, and junior Josie Glaser and senior Lauren Stafford each scored 12 points. Senior Sami Daniel and sophomore Masy Kuntz each supplied six points.

Each team scored 19 points in the third quarter, but Trinity had already held a 27-14 lead at the break, so Beach’s outburst was easily managed.

“This was an important win in the region standings, and I’m really happy for the girls,” Fong said. “The wins haven’t come easily, but the effort has been steady nevertheless.”

Beach dropped to 3-9 overall with a 3-3 record in the region. Buccaneers junior Abby Wilhelmi led all players with 18 points, and senior Sofia Muruato followed with eight points and 10 rebounds.

“Beach’s top unit plays really hard, but our depth gave us an edge,” Fong said. “Wilhelmi is a great leader for them, and we made her work for her 18 by subbing in fresh legs. Our reserves gave us great contributions again.”
