MADISON, S.D. - The Dickinson State men’s basketball team played competitively with Dakota State for the first 10 minutes Saturday.
The Trojans dominated the court the other 30 and capitalized off Dickinson State’s mistakes en route to a 75-64 win on Saturday.
Dakota State outscored Dickinson State 29-11 in the final 10 minutes of the first half following a 16-16 tie to take a 45-27 halftime lead. The Trojans pulled away in the second half.
The Blue Hawks shot 27 for 57 from the field and just 3 for 9 from the free-throw line.
Tevin Russell, Connor Donaldson and Jacob Gondrezick finished in double figures with 18, 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Dakota State’s Bryant Allen scored a game-high 20 points. Adam Hofer added 16, Miguel Sansavour scored 15 and Derek Meger chopped in 11 points.
Dickinson State’s Achilles’ heel all season has been its struggles with offensive rebounding. Saturday was no exception as the Blue Hawks only grabbed nine second-chance shots.
The Blue Hawks finish the regular season 11-16 overall and 3-7 in the NSAA and clinched to No. 5 seed in the tournament, which starts Thursday. The Blue Hawks will have a rematch against the No. 2-seeded Trojans.
