FARGO - It has been a long time coming for the Turtle Mountain-Belcourt girls basketball team.
Thursday, the Bravettes were making their first North Dakota Class A state tournament appearance since 1989.
That year TM-B advanced to the championship game so just to return to state after a 26-year absence was worth celebration, but the Bravettes wanted more and they got more.
The Bravettes defeated No. 4-ranked Fargo Davies 57-54 in the state quarterfinals at the Fargodome.
Junior guard Syann Golus hit two free throws with 11.9 seconds remaining to give TM-B the final three-point advantage.
Golus finished with 16 points, and was one of four TM-B players to finish in double figures.
There were 10 lead changes in the final 7 minutes, 23 seconds of the game.
Sophomore forward Ashley Davies hit two free throws with 40.4 seconds remaining to give the Bravettes a 55-54 lead it would not give up.
