FARGO - It has been a long time coming for the Turtle Mountain-Belcourt girls basketball team.
Thursday, the Bravettes were making their first North Dakota Class A state tournament appearance since 1989.
That year TM-B advanced to the championship game so just to return to state after a 26-year absence was worth celebration, but the Bravettes wanted more and they got more.
The Bravettes defeated No. 4-ranked Fargo Davies 57-54 in the state quarterfinals at the Fargodome.
Junior guard Syann Golus hit two free throws with 11.9 seconds remaining to give TM-B the final three-point advantage.
Golus finished with 16 points, and was one of four TM-B players to finish in double figures.
There were 10 lead changes in the final 7 minutes, 23 seconds of the game.
Sophomore forward Ashley Davies hit two free throws with 40.4 seconds remaining to give the Bravettes a 55-54 lead it would not give up.

FARGO - Ron Metz went into halftime wondering if anybody was going to find a shooting groove.
The Patriots found the range in the second half. They pulled away to a 66-49 win against West Fargo on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class A state tournament.
Century pulled away with 16-of-30 shooting in the second half after taking a 26-21 intermission lead. The Patriots were 10-of-38 from the field in the first half, with only two baskets coming from beyond five feet. West Fargo was 8-of-28 at halftime with one long-range basket.
Early in the second half, Century scored on four straight possessions, a 9-0 run that allowed the Patriots to pull ahead 37-24. That included a 3-point basket by Jaiden Schuette, the first of six treys the Patriots would make in the half.

FARGO - Fargo Shanley, the defending North Dakota Class A girls basketball state champion, put the pedal down at the state tournament Thursday.
East Region top-seeded Shanley quickly grabbed control in its state quarterfinals matchup with West Region, No. 4-seeded Bismarck and cruised to a 52-23 win over the Demons at the Fargodome.
Shanley’s defense led into its offense in the first half as the No. 1-ranked Deacons scored a total of 12 points off turnovers in the first 18 minutes of the games.
