MINOT - Facing his first batter in relief, Souris Valley Sabre Dog pitcher Matt Sartwell struck out Badlands Big Sticks catcher Brayden Olson to start the sixth. However, catcher Drew Pollum dropped the ball, allowing Olson to reach.

Next, right fielder Gabe Knowles walked and second baseman Ben Thoma reached on a fielder's choice as Olson was thrown out at third. With his team down 4-3, and the go-ahead run on base, center fielder Nathan Sanders stepped up to the plate. He blasted a 1-0 pitch over the wall for a three-run home run, putting Badlands up 6-4.

The visiting team held off the home team the rest of the way en route to an 8-6 win on Thursday, June 6, from Corbett Field.

The Big Sticks (9-3) added two more runs in the eighth thanks to RBIs from left fielder Kaimana Souza Paaluhi and designated hitter Mason Schwellenbach.

Schwellenbach also went yard in the contest, opening the fifth with a solo shot.

The Sabre Dogs (3-7) pitching staff struck out 11 Big Sticks, led by starter Zavian Caldwell, who fanned seven in five innings.

The Souris Valley offense was powered by second baseman Tyler Courtney, who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. In both the eighth and ninth innings, the Sabre Dogs had the bases loaded, but only generated one run on each occasion before the Big Sticks retired the side.
