GRAND FORKS, N.D.-The new Fighting Hawks logo has made its first appearance on University of North Dakota athletic wear.

On Tuesday morning, UND revealed football helmets adorning the recently released Fighting Hawks logo.

"The players are going to like the new look," UND coach Bubba Schweigert said. "They have a new logo, a new name and they'll embrace it. It's a new era, and we're going to accept the change and be a leader in promoting the change."

The new look includes a Fighting Hawks decal on one side of the green helmet with a decal of a player's number in white lettering on the other side of the helmet.

The UND football program had featured the interlocking 'ND' on its helmets continuously since 1969.

UND players report to fall camp today at Memorial Stadium. The Fighting Hawks' first practice is Friday morning.

"We're excited about coming to fall camp, and we have a lot of work to do," Schweigert said. "The guys have had a good winter, a good spring and a good summer. Now, it's time for fall camp and we need to take a big step because we're playing a very, tough physical opponent in our opener."

UND opens its season Sept. 1 at Stony Brook

UND's home opener will be Sept. 17 against South Dakota in the Potato Bowl.
