VALLEY CITY - The Dickinson State baseball team lost both sides of its North Star Athletic Association doubleheader on Saturday at Valley City State. The Vikings won 8-5 and 9-1.
In the opening game, Valley City jumped out early, scoring five runs in the third inning alone to build a 6-0 lead. Valley City tacked on another three runs in the eighth while Dickinson State’s bats remained silent. The Blue Hawks only run came in the ninth after Sagan Osborne hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Jake Young.
In the second game, Valley City (18-31, 9-12 NSAA) scored twice in the bottom of the first, but DSU (23-25, 10-10) answered in the second as Jake Hignite scored on a groundball out from Jacob Cuch.
The Vikings added another in the bottom of the frame to go ahead 3-1 and added two more in the fourth.
DSU tied the game at 5 after scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Joe Demers hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Jason Thibault started for DSU and gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Joey Buchanan pitched two clean innings, but Taylor Dantini took the loss after offering up the home run to Demers.
The teams return to the field for another doubleheader starting at noon today in Valley City.
