WATFORD - The Heart River football team put itself into an early deficit against Watford City and could never bounce back.
The Wolves opened the game with 21 unanswered points en route to its 33-0 win on Friday night. Senior wide receiver Brendan Leaming finished the game with three receptions for 41 yards with two touchdown passes.
Dalton Wright and Brandon Sandvik scored the first two touchdowns of the game on back-to-back runs of 50 yards and 28 yards, respectively. Sandvik had nine carries for 58 yards while rushed for 91. Watford City quarterback Keegan Thompson was 5 of 7 with two touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. He ran for 138 yards.
For Heart River, Seth Keator led the Cougars in rushing with 39 yards on 14 carries. Cade Shypkoski added 30 yards on the ground while Cole Olson and Clayton Tangen rushed for 29 and 14 yards, respectively.

Hazen 14, Beulah 6 BEULAH - In the battle of the Coal Bowl, Hazen came out victorious.
The Bison defeated Beulah 14-6 on Friday. Hazen struck first in the first quarter as Wyatt Carr scored on a two-yard run. The two-point conversion pass from Connor Doll or Chase Brunner was successful. The Bison scored again in the second quarter as Doll connected with Hunter Steffan on a 82-yard pass.
Beulah avoided the shutout early in the fourth quarter as Casey Walcker scored on a three-yard run.
