The Mott-Regent girls basketball team is returning a handful of players with a new coach at the helm.
Jasmine Ottmar is in her first-year as the head coach of the Wildfire. She took over for Brad Greff, who was the head coach at Mott-Regent for the last three years.
Mott-Regent graduated three players - Naomi Meier, Marah Friez and McKayla Roll - which saw many varsity minutes.
However, the team returns a handful of players including 5-foot-7 forward Abby Honeyman. The senior forward has already signed her letter of intent to compete for the Dickinson State women’s track and field team.
Honeyman averaged 14.5 points and seven rebounds during the District 13 Tournament last season. She was named to the All-District 13 team. The Wildfire failed to make the Region 7 Tournament after taking losses to Heart River and Bowman County during the District 13 Tournament.
Mott-Regent also returns a host of underclassmen of juniors and sophomores. The junior class includes Shantel Herner, Jaylea Schaible and Allison Gion. The sophomores are Amber Friedt, Abbey Kautzman, Madeline Vesledahl, Pologne Baker, Kaitlyn Duncan and Sadie Ambers.
Last season the Wildfire finished with a 6-14 overall record and ended 2-3 in District 13. Mott-Regent averaged fifth most points in Region 7 with 48.2 points per game, but had a tough time defensively as the team allowed the second most points per game at 53.7.
