Dickinson State Athlete of the Week - Cody Johnson
Cody Johnson, a sophomore on the Dickinson State wrestling team placed second in the 197-pound weight bracket. He went 4-for-5 on the day, falling in the championship match 16-8. He won his first match by technical fall and his next by a 16-3 major decision. He won the semifinal with a pin just 54 seconds in the match.
DP: How long have you been wrestling and what's your favorite part about it?
CJ: "I've been wrestling since the first grade. My favorite part about it is probably how competitive it is and how it's one man against another. I mean there is team parts to it. But I really just like that it can come down to me. I can't rely on someone else in an individual match."
DP: What's your major?
CJ: "My major is computer and technology management."
DP: What are your team goals for the rest of the year?
CJ: "Our team goal is to do the best we can and get as many guys as we can to nationals and get as many All-Americans as we can."
DP: Personal goals?
CJ: "My personal goal is to be an All-American."
DP: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would you choose?
CJ: "Peanut butter and jelly, easily."
DP: What's the last show you binged?
CJ: "I watched Flashpoint on Netflix."
DP: Favorite movie?
CJ: "My favorite movie is probably Deadpool."
DP: Who has been your biggest inspiration to succeed?
CJ: "My biggest inspiration to succeed is definitely my parents and my whole family, my brother and sister as well. Another big part of that was my high school coach, Guy Melby. And my best friend Gresh (Jones), We've been on the same team since middle school and that's pretty cool.
