Chris Hinnenkamp, Class of 1999 Fargo North High School, is one of about 400 smokejumpers working in the nation.  Hinnenkamp has been working as a smokejumper for 6 years - he estimates the average smokejumper lasts about 7, before injury and other stressors force them out of the profession.

The Coal Canyon Fire is burning at about 400 acres six miles north of Edgemont South Dakota Friday Aug. 12, 2011. Structures are threatened but none have been evacuated. As of Friday afternoon, the fire was zero percent contained. Two firefighters were injured on Thursday and a third was killed while battling the wildfire.
